“Hi guys, Mat Butler here at the Business Video Experts and welcome to another episode. As you can see I am actually at the Snow Dome in Tamworth. If you’ve never been here before it’s actually quite a cool place because you have got real snow with people skiing snowboarding and some of these guys are amazing. I’ll show you in a little bit, but basically I want to tell you a little story because, probably about 12 years ago, I was in this very spot stood here looking out and seeing these brilliant snowboarders and skiers and thinking, you know what, that would be a really cool thing to be able to do and I really want to do it, but I was a bit nervous because I’ve never done anything like that before and it looked
like a pretty tricky thing to be able to do, even though some of these guys make it look really easy. So, after a lot of “umming” and “ahhing”, I actually went and booked in for a lesson.
It was pretty tough; I fell over quite a lot and you know it took a bit of getting used to, but after some time I got really good and after about a week or so of the training I actually
went out there on my own took the snowboard right to the top because around that corner at the top is it goes a bit further up as well and I was well excited to be going down. Not long
after I started doing that I actually had an accident on the top corner. I fell on a bit of ice and I actually broke my arm, which was pretty horrible, but basically what I’m trying to tell you is that with any new skill, especially when it comes to video, you know it’s the right thing to be doing. But it’s actually quite hard to convince yourself to take that first step and there will be times when you’ll metaphorically break your arm and make mistakes with video. But it doesn’t matter because as long as you get up after that and get going again and keep going, you’ll become one of these guys that are absolutely brilliant and you can become the best person at it. And when it comes to video, it’s got so many benefits. It really raises your status, so if you can do little videos like this it’s going to raise your status in your market and help you become an authority. So even when I broke my arm snowboarding, I kept on going after that (obviously when my arm was fixed) and I became really good at it. So guys, get out there and take those first steps into using video because you know it’s worthwhile.”
